Bullying Awareness Announcement Eagle Pass High School, when the topic of bullying comes up, we usually believe or say, "I've not bullied anyone, I am not a bully." However, there are some things that we need to be aware of and that we should keep in mind. If we have ever heard seen someone being hurt by other words or actions and not done anything about it, we have contributed to that pain, to that bullying. If we find these hurtful comments to be funny if we join in the laughing or just turn around and ignore the incident, then we too are partaking in the bullying. We have provided a receptive audience for the hurt to take place, thus giving the bully the power to continue. As we've all heard and experienced, it is difficult to act openly in defense of a bully's victim. It is a scary thing to do, however we must remember that there are those in authority who can will do so. Your action of defense can be anonymous and yet be a highly powerful and deterring one. Bullying Awareness Announcement For October 20th 2016 A bystander is someone who watches something happening without being part of it. People who watch a bullying situation are bystanders. Bystanders give power to the bully by giving a bullying situation their attention. Sometimes they give the bully power by laughing at the victim which only makes the situation worse. Being a bystander of a bullying situation is nOT okay. Bystanders who watch bullying give their power away to the person who bullies. They hurt the person who is being bullied. They're not helping and that's how they become part of the bullying problem. An important thing to remember is that bystanders can use their power to help people that are being bullied. Actions that help reduce or stop bullying are part of the solution. And that's what all of us at Eagle pass High School need to do- we all need to be part of the solution. Bullying Awareness Announcement Students who experience bullying find that actions of other students are most helpful in dealing with the bullying. Be an Up-Stander! Be a friend! Report all incidents of bullying! Students who have been bullied reported that the most helpful things that others can do are: listen to the victim, check in with them afterwards to see if the bullying stopped, and give the student advice to report a Teacher, Counselor, Administrator, or trusted adult. Whatever you do, do not just stand and watch! This message is brought to you by the Counseling Dept. For specific programs, please click on any of the hyperlinks below. To: All Students From: B-Wing Office Parking permits are in. Please come by the B-Wing office and pick up an application. This only applies to students who have a drivers license no learning permits are allowed. Also parking permits will be issued in the morning before school only. Parking permits are on a first come first serve basis. Parking is limited. From: Counseling Dept. About 20% of high school students in the U.S. reported being bullied at school, while about 15 % reported being bullied online. People may think that bullying outside of school will not result in any action by administration. Think again! Cyber-bullying does affect a student's ability to feel safe and comfortable at school, and will result in administrative action when reported. Be an Up-Stander report all bullying incidents. Next meeting will be on Oct. 11 2016 To: All Students From: As we bring awareness to Bullying and Cyber-bullying this month you need to know that over half of he bullying incidents stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. When bullying happens in a crowd there are always students who would like to step in to help but are afraid of being bullied or attacked by the perpetrator. Being an Up-Stander does not mean you will report a bullying incident to an adult who can then address the victim and the perpetrator to bring the bullying behavior to a stop. To: Seniors From: D.
